welcome sleepies, to our very first meme saturday! every month a little mod-hosted meme will go up for us to play around with admist the chaos, and this theme was chosen by popular demand! we've all heard about texts from last night, but have you heard of......
MURMURS FROM LAST NIGHT
strange things happen in the night. maybe you drink, or dream, or get high as a kite, and it's hard to hide it! especially when we're all collectively connected in a way! the rules are quite simple! you may even know them by now.
π post a top level for your character and include a few text starters, like the ones provided.
π interact.
π thrive.
π if you wish for your threads to be game canon, the sky is the limit (just make sure your thread partner is okay with it!).
π We might have some special guests later.
[Some random, half-accidentally projected, half just killing time Murmurings.]
1. What do you think is harder to take care of: feathers, scales or fur? I could really use some conditioning tips for... pinions.
2. Is it just me or are there a lot more men here than women? Sleep might need to examine their biases.
3. Advice for insomniacs? I think I made it to five hundred sheep last night before giving up.
4. I know I'm new here and others have had it worse, but I just want to say it once before I go back to coping: this place is shit.
5. Hours since I last accidentally levitated and fallen on my ass: 3 I have more bruises from my own inability to stay on the ground than I do from anything else in Manhattan.
[ At her query, he helpfully supplies an image of said item. ]
Usually for colds, but it makes a hell of a sleep aid if you're really at the brink. [ No, he isn't speaking from experience or anything. ]
I've found both exercise options to be fairly effective as well. Just know if you opt for fucking it out with a partner, it strengthens the tether to that person.
It definitely would have been easier in the tunnels surrounded by all the other new arrivals, if I didn't have to find a private place to pee every time.
Oh. Oh, shit. I didn't even consider that. Rough. Should've just told them to turn around. I wouldn't want to walk off to piss in a dark, dingy corner only to be jumped by a Host. That would be the worst way to go.
A club? Well, it's a nice sentiment, at least. Do you think we should petition Sleep to bring in more women? Or should we protect them from this place?
[She's not actually serious, but it's an almost entertaining thought.]
HM. Well, it'd be silly of Sleep to give you a body without all of the necessary tools for taking care of it? I use my mandibles for things all the time.
Birds usually take care of their own grooming...but I guess it'd be different for a human who started growing feathers, if the natural instinct didn't come along with that.
[ Despite the fact that his big giant birdfriend is manifested from shadows and therefore doesn't need care in exactly the way normal animals do, he still knows some things. ]
Feathers usually have either an oil gland or powder down, so when a bird preens, they spread that around to act as a protectant. They usually don't need to be bathed unless they've gotten dumped with something gross. [ Although, given Sleephattan. ] ...which is pretty easy to run into here, I guess.
Usually with their beaks, which...might complicate things. [ Unless she gets one of those too...which seems like an absolute possibility, given some of what they've already seen. ]
There are a few things. When they shake and fluff up their feathers, that's to get the feather barbules that might've come apart to hook back together. There's some smoothing to get feathers back in their place, so they're properly aerodynamic. It's harder to fly if feathers are displaced.
And...distributing oil or powder, like I mentioned already. The birds that have powder down get it from down feathers breaking down into dust, or it's formed around the feathers -- I think that's mostly parrots and herons. The birds that have an oil gland...
[ This is the most awkward answer ever. ]
That's usually located...well. Around the tail feathers.
[ Every bird you've ever seen with their beak in their butt? Yeah. ]
[Sirius had recently woken up from another nightmare and he was wrestling with the same question.]
I'm still trying to figure that out myself. It was much easier when I didn't need to sleep. Sometimes reading or talking with someone helps. The Murmur's a nice distraction as well.
[A faint flicker of panic rippled through his thoughts but he was too tired to suppress it. Maybe he didn't need to hide it here? They were all changed is some way thanks to Sleep.]
...no. I wasn't entirely human before so I didn't need things like sleep or food. I still enjoyed eating sometimes though. It reminded me of when I was human and I didn't want to lose that part of himself.

Take a walk, read a book, exercise.
If all else fails, find a bottle of NyQuil or fuck it out. [ Look, options! ]

[Brands that probably don't exist in Runeterra?]
I've done the exercise before. Both kinds of it. It's... a decent option.
