welcome sleepies, to our very first meme saturday! every month a little mod-hosted meme will go up for us to play around with admist the chaos, and this theme was chosen by popular demand! we've all heard about texts from last night, but have you heard of......
MURMURS FROM LAST NIGHT
strange things happen in the night. maybe you drink, or dream, or get high as a kite, and it's hard to hide it! especially when we're all collectively connected in a way! the rules are quite simple! you may even know them by now.
π post a top level for your character and include a few text starters, like the ones provided.
π interact.
π thrive.
π if you wish for your threads to be game canon, the sky is the limit (just make sure your thread partner is okay with it!).
π We might have some special guests later.
[Belatedly, Kalmiya realizes that her third point of interest was not even a question.
Truly the world will never run out of ways to surprise her.
And of course Sharon reassures her like that, nearly the exact same thing Arthur said to her when she was similarly rendered unusually tentative by his offer. Her heart does some clenching, flipping, fluttering thing as her memory assembles this harmonious chord with what Sharon has given her.
(Hm. Does she have a type?)]
no of course not, i trust you i'm just surprised! normally i have a better sense for this sort of thing??
[Perhaps she had been so preoccupied trying to sort the nature of her own affections that this aspect of Sharon's somehow eluded her understanding? Regardless, her surprise is clearly genuine in its clear echo over the tether. What is also very clear is her rapidly blooming excitementβsurprisingly innocent in its brightness despite the context.]
[ Kalmiya's excitement is exciting in itself. There's something special in it, in how she recognizes Sharon's desire with that bright bubble of warm, familiar adoration. ]
I mean, I did have a bit of a reaction when I found out casual sex results in deep tethers. [ It's no surprise Kalmiya hadn't picked up on Sharon's interest before. Hell, it's only been in recent months that Sharon has even realized she had much of one at all. And once she did, she had no idea what to do with it. ] Tethers already made me uncomfortable. The idea that I could deepen them was terrifying.
[ She's lived both her lives at a distance from the world, and even now, she's afraid of what might slip through if she lets herself be seen too fully. Kalmiya has already witnessed one of the worst things that's ever happened to her, and she never flinched from it. Even Sharon's anger, she knows, would be safe with her. Not buried. Not feared. ]
But I'm not scared of that now. I trust you, I— [ How is this word still so hard for her? Her stomach flips. ] I love you. Sex is just a new way to express that.
[ Jinx opened that door months ago, and now Sharon feels just bold enough to step outside her familiar bounds. ]
The twilit wildwood of Kalmiya's heart rustlesβleaves and chirps and bells all stirred up by the rush of wind through her chest. That gust kicks up the ground too, lifts some mossy loam from the forest floor to reveal a sprout. Its root system is strong, its stem and leaves healthy. But it is small. As if it took to dormancy beneath layers of stronger things to protect itself as it waited.
It is a million miracles to love and be loved. To find someone in the vast universe, and come to know them, and find love in that understandingβeach is its own separate wonder. To be loved in turn is twice each of those wonders.
Kalmiya is satisfied to be cared for. She is overjoyed to be loved.
But she is deeply, painfully, desperately grateful to be told. To not just have, but be entrusted with someone's love.
The little sprout drinks in the glint of sunlight it has finally been given in this dark, dark place. For a beat there is just the thick sound of a forest teeming with life as Kalmiya reels, almost disbelieving. Then the excitement brightens by magnitudes, lightening into something both grateful and giddy as it swells and carries the sound of her jubilant giggling with it.]
i love you too!! π and even if you're still a little scared or you get scared later it's all right! because...it can be scary! but i'll be right there with you! we can do or not do whatever you want :)
[Have you ever seen a dog so excited that its whole body shakes when it wags its tail?? Yeah.]
[ Something stirs within Kalmiya, the words reaching places Sharon hadn't quite anticipated. She'd assumed her love was obvious, that her adoration lived in the tether between them, singing softly whenever they were together. But now it's painfully clear that, for some people, feelings need to be spoken aloud to truly take shape. That Kalmiya needs to hear them to feel fully, wholly held by them. Not everything is as self-evident as Sharon believes, and this, she realizes, is a lesson worth learning.
All at once, Kalmiya brightens, like a sunflower breaking through dirt, turning her sun-warmed face toward the light and swaying happily in it. Her giggling tickles along their tether, and Sharon swears she can feel it, a warm nudge of affection pressing back against her. Sharon brightens in return, even if she can't quite match the older woman's pure jubilation. ]
I should have told you earlier. [ There's no heavy weight of regret in it, just the quiet understanding that if she'd known it would make Kalmiya feel like this, so radiant, she wouldn't have let her own fears slow her down. Hindsight, after all. ] But I'm glad I did now. I'll be sure to find ways to remind you of it, too.
[ Now that she knows, now that she knows. Sharon contains a wealth of affection within her, and once she knows it's been accepted, she can be freer with it. ] And don't you worry, I'm good at doing things that might scare me a little. It's kind of exciting, actually. [ Given the flush of her end of the tether, that might be an understatement. ]
no, it's okay! if you weren't ready to tell me then i would never ask you to i could feel it. that was enough for me
[She is insistent upon this. Relationships are give and take. She never wants to take more than she gives, and she won't ask the people she loves for anything she wouldn't give if she were in their position. Kalmiya remembers the time when she was not ready to speak of her feelings to anyone. She remembers refusing to love, running from any and every budding attachment or potential, because she was afraid of what it would mean for her and her newfound freedom.
Kalmiya Longwillow was still such a small, frail existence back then; after everything she did to seize that existence for herself, she was not willing to simply give pieces of it away. She wanted so, so badly to be loved. But she wasn't ready to give, and wasn't able to trust when it was given.
She wraps herself in the returning warmth of Sharon's affection like a blanket, feels the humid flush of it settle over her own skin.]
it's just nice to hear it and nice to know you feel safe telling me β€οΈ so
if you're ready for some excitement, where should i meet you??
[ Kalmiya's insistence, so soft, so gently understanding, makes Sharon's heart swell, the feeling as physical as it is emotional. Giving in to it is hard; how could it possibly be enough, when those words made her feel so vividly alive?
But she does relent. Sharon isn't someone who tramples another person's feelings for her own, not unless it's a matter of life or death, and Kalmiya has always been honest in the simplest, truest way. Like a spring day: warm when the sun is out, cool when clouds pass, never afraid to show exactly what she feels, to wear her emotions like a point of pride.
As if she'd spent so long hiding that she simply couldn't anymore. ]
How about your place? [ There's no chance she's bringing Kalmiya back to the townhouse, and beyond that, Kalmiya's apartment is one of the few places in the city Sharon truly feels safe. Familiar in a way that borders on home, eccentricities and all, because it is unmistakably, entirely Kalmiya. ]
[Well. That's perfectly fine, but she should probably do some cleaning while Sharon makes the trek over...
The thought only intensifies the urgency of her excitement, and honestly, she's grateful to have a reason not to stay still while she awaits her friend's arrival. Stillness is not normally an issue for Kalmiya; she's just found herself mysteriously with an excess of energy in light of this whole development, and getting some of it out ahead of time will be good.]
sounds perfect π then i'll see you soon try not to run into any trouble on the way!!
[The concern in her warning is clear across their brightly lit tether, but it's couched in humor for the sake of not being fussy.]
